This JavaScript code code moves form elements from one select box to the other. It allows for multiple items to be moved at once, and all items are sorted alphabetically as they are moved. The items are sorted by their description, not their value, which is helpful when pulling items from a database which have random IDs associated with them.
Note: The function move merely moves the items back and forth. This function alone will not select any of the items to be sent along with the post. In other words nothing will be sent in the form when you submit it unless some items are selected (highlighted) or additional JavaScript code it used. In this page I have added the function selectAll which loops through the righthand box and selects all the items before the form is submitted. This is much more intuitive for the user. The function selectAll is called in the onClick event of the submit button.
This is an addition to the script submitted by Maksim Kramnik. I have added sort functionality to his script.
This lightweight yet powerful script lets you create multiple (unlimited) combo boxes, with each one linked and dependant on the one proceeding it. Very nice.
Multiple series of dropdown boxes (up to 3) are automatically populated based on previous selection. Revised to work with IE, Netscape, Firefox, and Opera.
Here's a useful script for a form that needs to know the visitor's country. It saves giving a huge list of countries in one box. For the USA, it also asks the state.
Use this JavaScript to add and subtract items in different fields. Changes made can be displayed for each field.
Copy items from one selection box to a second selection box. Selected item values are stored as a string for further manipulation, such as submitted through a form, an alert box, etc. Useful!
